Group & Individual Supervision Opportunities

Dr. Amy Gilliland works with both individual and small group participants to meet AASECT requirements for Sexuality Educator Certification. The first steps for interested candidates are to review the requirements on the AASECT website; complete an initial inventory of their completion of those requirements; and assess their readiness for the process (time commitment, budget, support from colleagues, etc.). After deciding AASECT Certification is right for you, please email Dr. Gilliland for current dates and availability for supervision groups and individual appointments.

The Benefits of AASECT Group Supervision with Dr. Gilliland

Small group AASECT supervision with Dr. Amy Gilliland is an ideal opportunity for people who wish to create their own programs or courses, and do not have a background in adult education. Part of AASECT Supervision is to meet regularly with the candidate while they are actually teaching sexuality education. This small group experience enables you to review curriculum, dissect group situations that came up during your teaching, and develop wisdom as a sexuality educator who transforms people’s lives in real time.

Is This a Good Fit for Your Needs?

A Note from Dr. Gilliland About Her Approach

I enjoy working with people who are in love with the process of seeing others learn and change their lives because of it. They can’t imagine not being sexuality educators! I want to bring out their educator identity by mentoring them in skills they will use throughout their career. If education is where your heart is, then I am interested in working with you. I also have a lot of affection for anyone doing any sexuality work in a rural area or with people who traditionally do not have access to SE.

I am neurodivergent and am prepared to work with others of differing abilities and needs. I strive to be anti-racist, transparent and decolonizing in all of my work.

I work with about one out of four people who contact me about supervision, simply because we aren’t the best fit. If you just want to add CSE to your CST credential, I am probably not your person. Mostly because if therapy is your first love, then that’s your passion.

AASECT Supervision Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. You will be expected to do the assignments, updating SE curriculum that incorporates the concepts discussed in the last meeting. If you aren’t currently teaching, you can use lesson plans from the past or from a textbook or curriculum you would like to use in the future. You can also use the course to create your own curriculum from scratch. If a group you care for or identify with does not have a culturally relevant curriculum, this would be an excellent opportunity to create one.

If you identify with a group that has experienced historical oppression and intergenerational poverty, and supervision would not be possible without a scholarship, one can be made available. You do not have to do any additional work. You do not have to justify your oppression by sharing intimate details of your life. Just state in the Interest Form that you need a scholarship.
